Sample Questions for Hotel English Competition
比赛规则：每个选手根据抽签结果确定两道题，其中一道是问答题，另一道为翻译题，题目与比赛选手的岗位技能、所在部门、所在饭店或所在城市相关，要求选手在一分钟内完成答题（包括思考准备时间，不包括评委提问时间），评委根据选手的答题内容，语音语调，语法句式等打分，满分为十分，答题内容占5分，语音语调占3分，语法句式占2分，每个语法错误扣0.5分
Group I: Housekeeping Department
Questions:
1. We are guests staying in your hotel and you’re the room attendant. It’s almost noon and our room hasn’t been made up yet. We are now asking you to make up our room. What would you say?
2. Would you please explain what check-out rooms are?
3. Where can we keep our valuables in the hotel? Can you explain how to use the safe in our room?
4. What should you do with the belongings left by the guest?
5. What facilities are there in our room? Can you explain how to use these facilities?
Translations:
1. 你们觉得这间房间怎么样？这是一间窗户朝南的湖景房。
2. 如果需要服务请拨8，如果要打外线请拨0。
3. 如果您使用的小电器需要变压器，我们可以提供。
4. 先生，请问现在可以给您做夜床吗？对不起，再过一个小时好吗？
5. 您要的这种变压器被别的客人借走了，客人一还来我马上送到您房间去。

Group II: F&B Department –Chinese Cuisine
Questions:
1. You are working in the Chinese restaurant. A guest calls to book a table for dinner. How would you answer the phone call?
2. A guest calls to make a reservation, but the restaurant is fully booked for the time the guest reserves, what suggestions would you make?
3. Can you say something about the Chinese food served in your restaurant?
4. It’s the first time we came to your restaurant. What are your recommendations to us? What are the specialties of your restaurant?
5. When the guest complain about the dishes, what will you do?

Questions:
1. How many different types of service are there in the western restaurant?
2. What are the responsibilities of a waiter/waitress?
3. What is the difference between a la carte and table d’hote?
4. What are the specialties in your western restaurant?
5. What do you usually do when guests come to your restaurant and take western cuisine?
Translations:
1. 请问您是用中餐还是用西餐？中餐在二楼，西餐在一楼。
2. 感谢你们的光临，请带好随身物品。
3. 请稍候，我来查对一下预订单，对不起，没有张先生的预订。

3. Do you serve alcoholic drinks in your bar? List some of the brands.
4. Do you think beverage service is important to a restaurant’s business? Why?
5. How do you mix the cocktail? What are the most important things in making a cocktail?
